My thoughts for today are Just Do It. Not trying to bite on Nike's motto, but the words are about as simple as the concept gets. I can't just sit here and think about the things I want to do, I need to just start doing them because thats how you get things done and thats how you can begin getting into the swing of doing things on a regular basis and thats really what I am getting at. I need to get myself back on schedule. Sorry, it was just a thought, but I don't have anymore time to write, now its time to start doing stuff. I'll be back later. |

It may literally be Thursday, but it's my Friday because I'm taking tomorrow off work. What does that have to do with this? Nothing really, I'm really just rubbing it in because I can. I'm always happy when Friday arrives, especially when it arrives a day early! But other than that, I really have nothing to say today. I'm dead tired from a multitude of things (busy week at work, new meds that make me drowsy, and going to the gym everyday and pushing myself kinda hard). So this evening I am gonna go home, maybe play some Call of Duty, go running this evening and sleep early. Maybe I will get some DJing practice in for once. You know, part of being a good DJ, is maintaining your skills and thats something that I believe should be handled on a daily basis with practice. But alas, I am not a good DJ by my own definition as I do not practice daily and so therefore my skills have fallen off from what they used to be. Maybe one day I will finally get back into doing this more often. Lately my biggest mission has been getting my vinyls and CDs all ripped and organized on my computer as FLAC files so that keeps from jumping on the turntables and getting in some good practice at my craft. Don't let this happen to you, practice everyday, EVERY SINGLE DAY. |

So now that the Technics 1200 has officially been discontinued and Technics is getting out of the Analog turntable business, what comes next? I'm sure that the 1200 will remain the industry standard for many years to come as it is the most beloved turntable by DJ's around the world. But of all the competitors and copy-cats who make look alike turntables, which is the best turntable, most comparable to the 1200 that can sit in its place as a replacement for a DJ wanting to purchase a new set of turntables? Yeah, I know that as of writing this, there are still some places that are selling the 1200's, yet at highly inflated prices I might add. I'm talking 100% mark-up. But of those few places still selling 1200's, there are many other stores, online and physical that used to sell 1200's but that are no longer able to as they are completely out of stock. So what is a new DJ to do?

So today Google is announcing Google Music where you will be able to upload your music collection and be able to stream it from whereever you may be using your computer, laptop, tablet or Android smartphone. From what I hav read there will be a limit of 50 GB which for free storage will really be an awesome amount of storage for music. However, for a collector such as myself, it is not nearly even close to enough room to contain my personal collection but that does not matter as it is still plenty large to fit all of my favorites. But imagine if it were to be large enough to fit a collection like mine which at the moment I would say is definitely in the multiple TB's realm. I could quickly have access to any song on any album that I want, assuming I have it in my collection. For a DJ out gigging this could be a godsend when someone requests something as you won't have to say, oh i left that crate of records at home, or I left that CD at home, or I left that Hard Drive at Home...Oh wait I can just stream it from Google Music hold on ill get it. That would be amazing and so I am excited at the prospect of being able to do something like this. Though at first something like this will not necessarily be 100% compatible with DJing programs or equipment, but that does not mean we cannot figure out some workarounds or that there won't soon be some forward thinking companies designing equipment and software to take advantage of something like Google Music for DJ use. I would honestly love having access to my entire music collection without having to bring all my harddrives with me to every gig, it would really make things so much easier in the long run. Well thank you Google for making innovations or building upon existing innovations that make life easier for all of us. |
